Cam Newton Remains In Boot As Ankle Continues To Mend
(4/19 12:50 PT)

The Facts:
It’s been a month since the surprise announcement that Newton needed ankle surgery. So how’s he doing four-plus weeks after having the procedure? Darin Gantt of PFT, reported during Friday night’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN that Newton remains in a boot -- and that the team remains hopeful Newton will be back to 100 percent in time for training camp.  Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Which comes as no surprise. The original report indicated a six-week recovery. Given that, it's not a reach to believe the Panthers will take a cautious approach Newton when they crank up OTAs and mini-camps. This despite the fact that Carolina will be breaking in a bunch of new receivers. ... Meanwhile, as PFT's Mike Florio notes, the next time we hear Newton’s name inevitably will be when the Panthers exercise the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, which will pay him $13 million for 2015. ... We'll be following up on that and the more fantasy football relevant ankle in coming weeks.
