Andrew Luck Ready To Start New Era In Indy
(4/27 3:34 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... The Colts' new era is underway -- officially. The team added the most important piece in its sweeping, ongoing renovation by selecting Luck with the first overall pick in this evening's NFL draft. "It was great," Luck said on ESPN. "It was everything I've ever thought it would be. ... I can't wait to start with the Colts." Asked about his message for Colts fans, Luck said, "Hope for the best. I'll come in, work hard. ... I feel so grateful to be able to represent the city and be part of the team." Reported by the Indianapolis Star News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Colts held the first-overall pick for fourth time since 1990 and for the third time used it on a quarterback. They selected hometown favorite Jeff George in 1990 and Peyton Manning in 1998. Luck said he won't constantly compare himself to the future Hall of Famer, even if others will. ... Meanwhile, he'll be on the field for the first time May 2, the first day of the team's rookie mini-camp. Not surprisingly, Luck will do so as the Colts' starting QB. As ESPN's Todd McShay suggests, this appears to be a perfect fit of a quarterback's skill set with the Colts' new offensive philosophy. OC Bruce Arians will run a Pittsburgh-style scheme with a lot of bunch formations and movement and some no-huddle. Luck will have a lot of freedom to audible at the line of scrimmage. They want to be a much more run-oriented offense which could set up good play action, which is Luck's strength. This is a perfect offense for him, but as McShay stressed, it's a shame he won't have a better supporting cast in the beginning.
