Drew Brees Addresses Payton's Suspension
(3/31 2:36 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... Brees addressed reporters for the first time since the NFL handed down the punishments in a pay-for-pain bounty investigation conducted by the league. He did so on the same day HC Sean Payton was said to be filing an appeal over his season-long suspension. When asked if the QB had spoken to his coach, Brees said he has and it's a difficult time. "The entire team loves our coach. We'd do anything for him and certainly are with him during this time," Brees said. "Just understanding how difficult it is and we're all trying to get through it. We're hoping for the best." Reported by WDSU.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While the team goes through a difficult time with punishments, Brees said he is still optimistic on a long-term deal with the team and stay in New Orleans. "My goal will be and always has been to get a long-term contract with the New Orleans Saints that will keep me here my entire career. I'm going to continue to work toward that," he said. ... One could easily argue the loss of Payton makes Brees' presence with the team through the entire offseason even more important than it might otherwise have been. In other words, some additional leverage in the ongoing negotiations.
