Adams: Titans Have Offered Peyton Manning A Contract For Life
(3/15 11:56 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... To the extent that Manning is looking to parlay a contract for his services as a player into a contract for his services as an executive, it's working. Titans owner Bud Adams told KHOU radio in Houston on Wednesday that he has offered Peyton a contract "for life." Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Adams also said he "feels great" about the team's chances of landing Manning. ... Indeed, ESPN's Adam Schefter, appearing on SportsCenter this morning, advised viewers that it looks like the Titans and Broncos are the two finalists for Manning's services. As previously noted, NFL Network's Michael Lombardi first suggest that a key to the Titans' pitch might be the ability to offer Manning an organizational role after his playing days are over. That's something Denver can't do with John Elway playing a similar role. ... Meanwhile, as PFT's Mike Florio points out, there is some question of how a contract that contains financial promises beyond the expiration of the playing career impacts the salary cap. A post-playing-career maneuver once made by Broncos owner Pat Bowlen regarding Elway contributed to a finding that the team had violated the salary-cap rules. So, Florio notes, before any contract "for life" becomes effective, the league office will have to approve it. ... Stay tuned.
