Coughlin wouldn’t say what was done to Ballard except to clarify it wasn’t surgery. According to Star-Ledger Staffer Mike Garafolo, it’s likely Ballard received a shot or had fluid drained. Ballard said the procedure took only a few minutes. Asked if the team thought the “procedure” would make Ballard feel better, Coughlin replied sarcastically, “We actually thought it wouldn’t. Naturally, we did. What do you think those people do in there? Play cards. ...” Again, given the questionable designation Ballard drew on the team's final injury report for Sunday's NFC Championship game, Fantasy owners interested in rolling with Ballard against the Niners will need to verify his game status in the hour leading up to kickoff (when we'll have the team's official inactive list).
