The move comes as a major surprise considering Bengals owner Mike Brown's apparently being dead set against dealing Palmer. But Raiders HC Hue Jackson previously worked for the Bengals and FOXSports' Jay Glazer reports that Jackson worked Brown hard to get the deal done. As PFT's Mike Florio notes, the biggest question Raiders fans are asking is whether Palmer is in football shape. The Raiders host the Chiefs on Sunday. After a Week Eight 4, the Raiders host the Broncos. Four nights later, they travel to San Diego for the first of two games against the Chargers that will go a long way toward deciding the AFC West title. Palmer is under contract through 2014, at base salaries of $11.5 million, $11.5 million, $13 million, and $14 million. The prorated 2011 salary is $7.44 million; as of October 4, the Raiders had $6.1 million in cap space for 2011.
