Reports On Peyton Manning Increasingly Pessimistic
(9/5 12:20 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... The NFL was set on fire when an Indianapolis radio station reported Manning will need an additional surgery on his neck. Well, that isn't true. Yet. Emphasis on yet. ESPN reported Manning is seeing additional specialists due to the slow healing of his neck. That is accurate. After speaking to a source on the Colts the team didn't believe Manning would get another surgery. There was, however, a serious concern that Manning was not only going to miss the season opener but the potential was for Manning to miss four or five games. Or more. Reported by CBSSports.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
So wrote CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, who stressed that four or five game estimate isn't certain. But he is told the Colts have been preparing for the worst. Freeman went on to confirm what others have suggested: When Kerry Collins was signed some on the coaching staff always thought Collins would replace Manning for a game or two. Now, that mindset is changing within the team. As Freeman put it: "They are hoping for the best but now fearing the worst. ..." Worth noting: SI.com's Peter King is reporting Manning has a sore back to go with the neck. ... Stay tuned.
