The Facts:
Even though a second-round pick was used to select Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas in the 2011 draft, the Miami Dolphins openly admit they aren’t finished restocking the backfield. GM Jeff Ireland says the team’s shopping for a complementary back to pair with Thomas’ power running style, which allowed him to average 5.3 yards per carry in his college career. “I’m interested in having another back, whether it fits the description of a scatback or not, we’ll have to see what’s available,” Ireland said.

Ireland continued: “We need another complementary back who complements [Thomas] and Lex [Hilliard]. We do have somewhat of a scatback in Kory Sheets that we haven’t seen yet, so I’m still hoping he can develop. ...” As Sun Sentinel staffer Omar Kelly suggests, the team is volunteering this information with the hopes of catching the attention of individuals like DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Darren Sproles, Michael Tolbert, Kevin Smith, Reggie Bush, Michael Bush and Willis McGahee, just to name a few possible options for the team. Remember: HC Tony Sparano is firmly committed to having a run-first offense, and believes in the tandem tailback approach and it seems all but certain the Ronnie Brown-Ricky Williams pairing (both are free agents) has run its course.
