The Facts:
When asked by NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora at the NFL Annual Meeting if there would be an open competition between incumbent Jason Campbell and newly signed Rex Grossman, new HC Mike Shanahan was appropriately evasive. Shanahan didn’t take the opportunity to name Campbell the starter over Grossman, who said he wants the job.

“There’s competition at every position,” Shanahan said about the QBs. “Just because a guy comes in as a maybe third, fourth or fifth guy, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a chance to compete. But Rex Grossman was with (offensive coordinator) Kyle (Shanahan) in Houston, he understands the system. ... We’re going to get as much steps as we can and have all these guys compete. ..." Worth noting: Shanahan went down the same path when asked about his backfield duo of Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson.
