NFL Implementing New Policy On Head Trauma/Concussions
(11/22 7:30 PT)

The Facts:
The NFL is implementing a new policy it hopes will help in the fight to protect players in the issue of head trauma and concussion. NFL team doctors were informed this week that each team will now be required to supplement their medical staffs with an "independent neurologist or neurosurgeon" to specifically help with concussions. Reported by FOXSports.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to FOXSports insider Jay Glazer, teams were instructed to immediately find "independent" doctors and send names to the league for approval. The new policy, pushed by Commissioner Roger Goodell, is expected to be in place by each team in a matter of a couple of weeks rather than waiting for next season. Part of this new policy will also stipulate that a player cannot return to practice or games until he is cleared by the independent neurologist in addition to his team doctor. Given the number of high-profile concussions in recent weeks (Marc Bulger, Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisber this week; Clinton Portis and Brian Westbrook in previous weeks), this policy is going to have an impact.
