The Facts:
Gates skipped Thursday's practice, spending time instead trying to get his sprained ankle right. But when asked later how his ankle felt, he pointed instead to his Achilles' tendon. "I'm just trying to keep as much pressure off my Achilles as I can," Gates said. "That is the part I'm worried about more than anything. It's the soreness in the Achilles."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Gates twisted his ankle in the Chargers' regular-season finale against the Broncos. He didn't practice last week, but was able to play in Sunday's playoff win over the Colts, leading the team in receptions (eight) and receiving yards (87). ... Despite the injury issues, Gates will be on the field in Pittsburgh and as Times staffer Jay Paris suggests, the star tight end figures to have a significant role if the Chargers are to beat the Steelers.
