Week 2 Quick Hits

By Chad Stapley

Both the young QBs in the Monday night game played extremely well. Nick Foles & Andrew Luck both played well enough for either team to win, though it was Foles and the Eagles who ended up with the victory. Luck threw for 172 yards with three TDs and one INT and Foles threw for 372 yards with one TD and one INT.

Trent Richardson seems to understand the offense better this season as he is breaking through the correct holes and gaining more yards per carry, but now he has a fumbling problem as he coughed up two fumbles in the game and was held out of the end zone.

Darren Sproles, WOW. Sproles had 11 touches for 178 yards and a TD. He is absolutely the reason the Eagles were able to come from behind and steal a victory.

With Carson Palmer being out for an indefinite amount of time the Cardinals need to give Andre Ellington the ball much more. Ellington had 15 carries for 91 yards which equals 6.1 YPC; given that Drew Stanton offers almost nothing at QB the Cardinals need to rely on Ellington.

The only good thing I saw from the Giants was the play out of 2nd year TE Larry Donnell from Grambling State. Donnell had seven catches for 81 yards and the Cardinals had no idea how to cover him, watch for this guy to make noise all season.

What an awful game from Colin Kaepernick. Not only did he throw three INTs but he also lost a fumble to go with take four sacks. That is not what the 49ers expect out of a guy that they just signed to a lucrative extension.

On the other side of the game Jay Cutler proved every bit worthy of his summer extension throwing four TD passes with zero turnovers. Cutler and that Chicago offense are a match made in heaven.

Sammy Watkins that is exactly why the Bills drafted you this season. Watkins had seven receptions for 116 yards and a TD. The Dolphins had no idea how to cover him.

Chad Henne took 10 sacks! (That is not a typo) He looked lost out there against a mediocre Redskins defense. Why in the world have they not turned the QB duties over to 1st round draft pick Blake Bortles.

Kirk Cousins is either going to be the starting QB for the Redskins next season or for somebody else because he is a stud. Cousins filled in for oft-injured RGIII and he played lights out; throwing for 250 yards and two TD in the beat down of the Jaguars.

If I were a Cowboys fan I would plead with Jerry Jones to only let Tony Romo do two things; either throw the ball to Dez Bryant or hand the ball off to DeMarco Murray. Bryant caught 10 passes for 103 yards and a TD and Murray ran the ball 29 times for 167 yards and a TD.

Stevan Ridley seems like he regained his composure and can be a reliable RB again. He ran for 101 yards a TD in the beat down of the Vikings.

Throwing four INTs, taking two sacks, and coughing up a fumble is no way to keep a young QB off the field, Matt Cassell. The only thing Cassell did right was throw an early TD pass but everything else went miserable for the vet.
The Saints are going to miss Mark Ingram for the next month as he sits out with a hand injury. He ran for 84 yards before going down with injury and was helping the Saints juice the clock.

That Terrance West & Isaiah Crowell RB duo in Cleveland is looking better by the week. The young RBs ran the ball 30 times for 122 yards and a TD to lead the Browns to a victory over the Saints.

Giovani Bernard & Jeremy Hill for the Bengals make up a better RB duo than the above; Hill and Bernard ran the ball 42 times for 164 yards and two TDs to lead the Bengals to a victory.

Mohamed Sanu is a stud and he reminds me a lot of Hines Ward. Sanu is a WR by name but he does it all, he runs sweeps, he throws the ball, and he catches the ball. The Bengals use him in a number of ways. This week he threw a 50 yard pass and caught three passes for 84 yards.

Cam Newton looked just fine in leading his team to victory this weekend. He still need to develop a better relationship with all of his new WRs but Newton threw for 281 yards and a TD with no turn overs.

Austin Davis led the Rams to a victory and he did it in an extremely efficient fashion. The Rams need to unleash the full reins on Davis and let him take some shots down field. This week Davis went 22/29 for 235 yards.

Brian Quick had another big game catching seven passes for 74 yards.
Bobby Rainey is filling in just fine for the injured Doug Martin. Rainey had 29 touches for 174 yards in a close defeat at the hands of the Rams. Rainey is a guy that people should absolutely pick up if he is available.

Josh McCown is not the answer Tampa Bay, why in the world will Lovie Smith not start Mike Glennon?

Philip Rivers threw for 284 yards and three TD passes against the “scary” Seahawks defense. Rivers proved to everyone that there are holes in the Seattle D.
Antonio Gates is like fine wine; he only gets better with age. He grabbed three TD passes to prove that theory.

Seattle will not win many games if they only attempt to run the ball 13 times.
Derek Carr continues to impress me even in a game where he threw two INTs. Carr seems to be able to read the field pretty well and for the most part he makes the correct throw. This week he added the rushing dimension to his game and showed that he can beat teams with his legs also.

Running the ball 28 times for 138 yards and a TD; I think it is safe to say Arian Foster is finally injury free and he has led the Texans to a 2-0 start.
James Jones proved he was worth the money in the offseason catching nine passes for 112 yards and a TD.

As I said last week; the Packers combo of Randall Cobb & Jordy Nelson could be the best in the NFL. The duo caught 14 passes for 248 yards and three TD receptions.

Kniles Davis is someone you should pick up in your fantasy league if he is still available. In his first extended played time he ran the ball for 79 yards and two TDs.
