Start Em / Sit Em - Week 3 - Sunday Games

By Brad Kruse

In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggestin your start Drew Brees each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~4-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going. Good Luck this year!

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Pierre Garcon WR WAS PHI Start This will be DeSean Jackson's homecoming game assuming he plays. But, Pierre Garcon might be very busy in this game as D Jax draws the attention and Garcon works underneath presenting a solid target in a good matchup.
Dwayne Allen TE IND JAC Start Jacksonville has been generous to the TE's in 2013 and continues to be in 2014. Niles Paul had a big game last week, look for Dwayne Allen to capitalize this week.
Stevan Ridley RB NE OAK Start It's always a tough question on who to play from the NE backfield. Ridley tends to play well in matchups that are favorable to the RB. This week he gets Oakland as an opponent. Vereen is also questionable which should be a bonus for Ridley owners.
Emmanual Sanders WR DEN SEA SIT If the trend continues with Seattle, Denver will start Sanders opposite Sherman and try to exploit matchups with Demaryius and Julius Thomas. This would lead to limited targets for Sanders making it difficult for him to contribute.
Victor Cruz WR NYG HOU SIT Through two weeks, Houston ranks 8th vs opposing Number 1 wide receivers. Look for them to take Cruz away.
Mike Wallace WR MIA KC Start Kansas City has been far from elite in defending the pass this year. Look for Wallace to put in a startable performance in week 3.
