Roster-Move Roundup: Elam Leaves Broncos For Atlanta
Say. ... Did I mention in the last Roster-Move Roundup that things were slowing down a bit? Did I mention how slow?

Well, the first Roundup since Monday night only has four items. The first one is a place-kicker and the second is a veteran wideout released following an off-field indiscretion. ...

(In other words, it's been slower than molasses.)

So, we'll get the ball rolling tonight in Atlanta, where the Falcons agreed to terms with record-setting kicker Jason Elam, who is leaving Denver after 15 seasons with the Broncos.

The two sides agree to a four-year, $9 million deal, Elam's agent, Jack Reale, told Atlanta Journal-Constitution staffer Steve Wyche. NFL Network insider Adam Schefter reports the deal includes $3.3 million in guaranteed money.

As Associated Press sports writer Paul Newberry noted, Elam had been the Broncos kicker since 1993, but he's coming home in a sense. He played high school football in suburban Atlanta.

In 1993, Elam kicked a 63-yard field goal against Jackson, tying Tom Dempsey's record for the longest field goal in NFL history.

Elam has reached 100 points in each of his 15 seasons and ranks fifth on the career list with 395 field goals and sixth in points with 1,786.

He finished last season with 15 consecutive field goals and kicked four game-winners, the most in the NFL since 1990. He also surpassed John Elway for most games in Broncos history last season.

The Falcons used 47-year-old Morten Andersen the last two seasons, but he doesn't have Elam's range. Andersen is the leading scorer and field goal kicker in NFL history.

According to Newberry, Matt Prater would get the first shot at replacing Elam in Denver. He handled kickoff duties in the Broncos' last two games after being waived by Miami and Atlanta last season. ...

In Pittsburgh. ... The Steelers terminated the contract of Cedrick Wilson on Thursday, less than 24 hours after the veteran wide receiver was arrested on assault charges.

Wilson, 29, was charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after allegedly hitting his former girlfriend Wednesday night.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Steelers chairman Dan Rooney made the decision to release Wilson after speaking with head coach Mike Tomlin on Wednesday night.

“We determined the situation was severe enough to warrant the player being released immediately,” Rooney said in a statement released by the team. “We trust that today’s roster move will indicate our intentions and send a message that we will not tolerate this type of conduct.”

Wilson appeared in 16 games with the Steelers last season, hauling in 18 receptions for 207 yards and a touchdown. He has played in 100 games over parts of seven seasons with the Steelers and 49ers.

Wilson's departure solidifies Nate Washington's status as the top receiving weapon behind starters Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. ...

In Tennessee. ... The Titans agreed to terms with former Falcons tight end Dwayne Blakley.

Blakley visited with Titans' officials on March 11 and agent Gary Glick remained in conversations with the team. Blakley finished the 2003 season on the Titans' practice squad and took part in training camp in '04 before being released.

Blakley played in 12 games for Falcons last season and had seven catches for 48 yards.

"The Titans made a nice offer," Glick said. "We talked to some other teams, but he really liked Tennessee."

As Nashville Tennessean beat writer Jim Wyatt noted, Blakley was teammates with new Titans tight end Alge Crumpler in Atlanta last season and he played in college at Missouri with Titans receiver Justin Gage. ...

In Green Bay. ... The Packers signed two of their exclusive-rights players this week, tight end Tory Humphrey and fullback John Kuhn, according to the NFL's internal transaction wire.

Humphrey, a third-year pro, is a backup tight end whom the Packers think highly of but who's had major injury problems since entering the NFL. He missed all of last season because of a broken bone in his ankle and seven games at the end of the 2006 season while on injured reserve because of a hamstring injury.

The Packers picked up Kuhn, a third-year pro, off waivers after Pittsburgh cut him last season at the end of training camp. ...
