Texans Have A Win, But Want Respect...
According to Fort Worth Star-Telegram correspondent Jim Carly, the Texans were still smarting late in the week over their perception that they were not getting respect in spite of their win over Miami. Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison talked only about how his team played poorly, and Houston players took that as a slight.

"That's the thing that'll hopefully keep these guys going," David Carr said of Madison's comments. "I know it's keeping me going. We can play better, but when teams get beat by you and they come out and say stuff like that, it makes you want to come out and do it to another team. So, hopefully, we can do it this week and keep it going.

"We really haven't gotten respect for what happened last week. All we hear about is the Dolphins and how they messed up. It was like we weren't even out there. We still have some respect to get from teams."

If they keep putting up numbers like they did last week, they'll get it quickly. ...

Also according to Carly, the Texans' top three wide receivers -- Andre Johnson, Corey Bradford and Jabar Gaffney -- combined for 11 catches, 231 yards and a touchdown last week, and are already seeing stardom for themselves as a group.

"I want to be on the front of Sports Illustrated; Jabar, Andre and me," Bradford said. "We want to be known as the best three receivers in the league next year. We all complement each other on our routes and how we play."

In a semi-related note. ... ESPN.com insider Len Pasquarelli reported on Friday that rather quietly, the Texans have promoted Gaffney ahead of Bradford in the starting lineup. ...

Also of interest. ...

Tight end Billy Miller, who led the team in receiving and scored the franchise's first touchdown last season, was rewarded with a four-year contract extension this week. "It takes a load off my shoulders," he said. "Just the fact I don't have to worry about contract talks in the future helps a lot. ..."

And finally. ...

According to Houston Chronicle staffer Carlton Thompson, head coach Dom Capers will have some difficult decisions to make in terms of deciding which players will be active for Sunday's game at New Orleans. Capers has all but said running back Jonathan Wells and newly-acquired fullback Greg Comella will be active this week after watching the opener from the sideline.

The return of Wells adds to a backfield so crowded Tony Hollings didn't get an offensive play in his NFL debut.

Thompson went on to advise readers that Wells will contribute mostly on special teams, but he could see action in the backfield.
