Eagles, Wentz Agree To Four-Year Extension Worth $128 Million
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed franchise quarterback Carson Wentz to a four-year extension, the team announced Thursday. The deal will keep Wentz in Philadelphia through the 2024 season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal is worth $128 million and includes guarantees over $107 million. Schefter added it can escalate from $128 million to a max value of $144 million. With the two years remaining on his rookie contract Wentz’s total deal is now six years for $154 million.

Wentz posted a 58-second video on his Twitter account expressing his excitement.

“What’s up Eagles Nation?!” Wentz said. “I can’t even explain to you how excited I am right now to be a part of his great city for this many more years. It means the world to me. From the moment I got drafted here, I knew this place was special. I knew they had the most passionate fans in the world in all of sports, and I knew we had the opportunity to build something truly special here and to be cemented here for this much longer means the world to me. ..."

Wentz, the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has been dynamic when on the field, but his first three NFL seasons have been marred by injuries. After playing in all 16 games as a rookie, he missed eight games over the past two seasons, including five last season.

In December 2017, Wentz tore his ACL and missed the team's final three games of the regular season and entire postseason run to a Super Bowl title. The injury also forced him to miss the first two games of 2018.

Wentz returned in Week 3 to go 5-6 in 11 games before suffering a stress fracture in his back that forced him to miss the final three games of the season. He finished the season with 3,074 yards, 21 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Still, with the Eagles allowing Nick Foles to sign with Jacksonville in free agency, it left the clear impression they have considerable confidence in Wentz's long-term health. This deal lends further credence to that notion.

That being the case, it's worth noting that Philadelphia upgraded his supporting cast during the offseason with the additions of receiver DeSean Jackson and running backs Jordan Howard in free agency.

ESPN's Matthew Berry is especially optimistic about Jackson's return, suggesting "Wentz was already going to be a top-10 fantasy pick at QB, but considering he's eighth in air yards per pass attempt the past two seasons, adding a speedster like Jackson only helps."

Adding running back Miles Sanders and red-zone specialist J.J. Arcega-Whiteside in the draft won’t hurt either.

When healthy, Wentz has shown he can be a top-shelf NFL signal-caller; the fact he hasn't been healthy the last two years will likely allow you to draft him at a discount.
