Beast Mode Shutting Down; Lynch Retiring... Again
After two seasons playing for his hometown Oakland Raiders, Marshawn Lynch is not planning to play football again, league sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. Lynch turned 33 on Monday, and he now is planning to move on to the next phase of his life.

But in truth, it sounds like this is a mutual.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted that while the Raiders love Lynch, head coach Jon Gruden made it clear the team had moved on from the 33-year-old running back. Rapoport added that Oakland plans to take an RB early in the draft, which opens Thursday.

Josh Jacobs, considered the top back in the draft, is a possible target for the Raiders in the 20s -- Oakland currently owns the No. 24 and 27 picks. The Alabama product fits the mold of a modern back that can perform in both the run and pass components of the offense.

Leading the ground-first Seahawks attack, Lynch generated four straight seasons of 1,200-plus yards in Seattle, during which he defined the workmanlike attitude of the team.

The first time Lynch retired came after nine NFL seasons, during the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl in February 2016, when the Pro-Bowl running back tweeted a photo of cleats dangling over a wire with a "peace out' emoji. Lynch later applied for reinstatement and was traded to the Raiders in April 2017, just before the NFL draft.

In his first year with the Raiders, Lynch remained productive enough, generating 891 yards on 207 carries (4.3 average) with seven TDs. There were some games that season Lynch was the offensive production.

Last season, injuries once again caught up with the aging veteran. He played just six games, earning 376 yards (4.2 average) and three scores.

Beyond the likely addition of Jacobs (or another back in this weekend's draft), the Raiders' backfield is left with free-agent addition Isaiah Crowell and holdovers Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington and Chris Warren -- an interesting-but-unproven product who is worth watching this summer whether Jacobs is on board or another lesser name.
