Luck Resumes Throwing; QB Expects To Be Ready Week 1
As Profootballtalk.com reported it, "Colts coach Frank Reich wasn’t lying when he said Andrew Luck was 'real close' to throwing actual footballs.
"Today he did, though only to people very close to him. ..."
It is the first time this year that Luck has been seen throwing footballs -- although owner Jim Irsay later confirmed today's model was a high-school version rather than an regulation NFL model.
Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star posted footage of today's tosses. Luck apparently threw about 10 passes, mostly to retired wideout Reggie Wayne, and they were all around 10 yards.
It wasn’t the first time Luck had thrown a football, however.
Luck said after practice that he threw with Reich a few weeks ago and used an official NFL football for those throws as opposed to the slightly lighter one he used on Tuesday.
Luck also said that he has no doubt about being ready to throw an official football many times when the Colts face the Bengals to open the regular season on September 9.
“Absolutely,” Luck said, via Kevin Bowen of the team’s website. “No knock on wood. I believe it in my bones.”
As PFT notes, that game would be the first game action for Luck since the end of the 2016 season. In addition to structuring camp practices to mimic what Luck will do in the days before regular season games, Reich said that Luck will play in the preseason this summer as he tries to knock off the rust that’s accumulated due to his right shoulder woes.
Indianapolis has deliberately brought Luck back into the fold during his lengthy rehab from a debilitating shoulder injury, increasing his work load gradually with the expectation that he will be "ready to go" when Week 1 arrives.
It's obviously a situation of great interest to fantasy owners and one we'll continue to follow closely.
