Glennon Joins The Bears; Cutler On His Way Out
The Bears and Mike Glennon have agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth an average $14.5 million per season. The team also told Jay Cutler he would be released.

I hear the collective groan of Bears fans and fantasy owners. I realize it sounds like a reach for Chicago. But there are positives here.

For starters, it sounds like the Bears have at least avoided getting “Osweilered.” Glennon's deal sounds pretty reasonable in comparison to the four year, $72 million deal the former Broncos signal caller signed with Houston one year ago today.

Brock Osweiler also received $37 million in fully guaranteed salary including a $12 million signing bonus.

But will the outcome be any better?

Well, Glennon, with 18 starts for the Buccaneers, has a larger body of work that Osweiler, who had just seven starts in four seasons in Denver, did before he signed with Houston.

In addition, Glennon has thrown for 4,100 yards, 30 touchdowns with 15 interceptions and a 60 percent completion rate.

In addition, the Bears appear to be building a very solid offensive line and they have a young running back in Jordan Howard, who appears to be capable of carrying the offense on his broad shoulders.

With Alshon Jeffery moving on via free agency, the Bears will look to emerging threat Cameron Meredith as his top downfield weapon and if Kevin White can stay healthy and live up to his first-round draft potential, Glennon might have the supporting cast to get the job done.

Would that make him a viable fantasy threat? Nah. But a viable No. 2 in 2QB leagues, a streaming candidate or potentially affordable DFS play? Sure.
