Bush Signs With 49ers; Veteran To Work Behind Hyde
After visiting with team officials on Friday, Reggie Bush agreed to terms with the 49ers after a two-year stint in Detroit that started with a solid 2013 season but ended with a disappointing 2014 season.

The Lions cut Bush after a season in which is fantasy football relevancy took a major hit.

As Profootballtalk.com pointed out, San Francisco will be Bush’s fourth NFL stop, after five years in New Orleans, two in Miami and two in Detroit. At age 30 he’s not quite the playmaker he once was, but he can still be a solid contributor in a limited role.

And that's all the 49ers will need.

Bush seems destined to play second-fiddle to second-year running back Carlos Hyde in the Niners' backfield as San Francisco attempts to replace Frank Gore's consistent production after the veteran left for Indianapolis via free agency.

The 30-year-old Bush showed flashes of burst and elusiveness last season in Detroit before being cut this offseason by the Lions. However, after enjoying a career year in 2013 -- 1,006 yards rushing and 506 yards receiving -- Bush couldn't stay on the field while battling injuries and earned just 297 yards on 76 rushing attempts.

But as NFL.com's Kevin Patra suggested, if the former USC star can stay healthy -- always a big if -- Bush will provide Colin Kaepernick with a viable target out of the backfield and a speed complement to Hyde's power game. The 49ers also have pass-catching back Kendall Hunter, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL, in the mix.

San Francisco's move to add Bush also creates more questions about how the New England Patriots will replace Shane Vereen -- signed by the New York Giants. Bush visited New England Friday and many viewed him as a perfect candidate to slide into a pass-catching role in Tom Brady's offense.
