Treylon Burks 2023 Outlook
Burks didn't have a highly productive rookie season, but he does pack a lot of promise. Expectations were high when he was selected with the No. 18 overall draft choice in 2022 with the choice coming on the same night Tennessee traded star wideout A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. But there really wasn't any chance of Burks being on that level right out of the gate. Burks admitted he was overwhelmed at the outset and then he struggled with injuries and missed six contests. Another blow was the loss of Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill as replacement Malik Willis was severely overmatched. After missing five games, Burks began to show his abilities. In his second game back, he had season highs of seven receptions and 111 yards in his top outing of the season. The Titans are hoping games like that will be more common in his second season, particularly if Tannehill can avoid the injury bug. Burks was a standout at Arkansas in the tough SEC so there figures to be a time when he is the best receiver on the Titans.
Treylon Burks 2022 Outlook
As NFL.com notes, big, smooth and natural, Burks possesses the versatility to operate from wherever you want and get to wherever you need no matter the competition. He's a mismatch receiver combining size, strength and competitiveness similar to the man he's replacing, A.J. Brown, but his speed testing at the NFL Scouting Combine did not meet expectations. Arkansas benefitted by putting the ball in his hands from a variety of alignments, and there is no reason to believe NFL play-callers won't benefit from doing the same. The tape is extremely exciting with real NFL skills jumping off the screen, but his potential to become a high-volume, three-level target is a little cloudier after a relatively disappointing showing at the Combine. That said, FantasyPros notes that Burks finished first in his class in yards per route run (3.57) while also ranking No. 1 in yards per route run when lined up outside (6.08) among all receivers. It's an encouraging sign that a size-speed specimen delivered when aligned on the perimeter, as he spent 77 percent of his career in the slot. In addition, the rookie's 8.5 yards after the catch rank 14th among 169 qualifying wide receivers over the past two seasons. Certainly, Burks will have an immediate opportunity on a depth chart currently featuring Robert Woods, who is coming off a torn ACL, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Racey McMath and other outliers.
