Golden Tate 2020 Outlook
Yes, he's the third of the top 3 Giants wideouts as ranked here. We say that to acknowledge he could just as easily end up as the No. 1 option as the third. The fact is, New York has three receivers who could all be considered the No. 1 option in Tate, Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard. Barring an injury, none of them profile as a standout fantasy option, especially when you add in Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram also being involved in the passing game. So, as CBSSports.com suggests, Tate will likely be the last one of the bunch drafted in all leagues, but he could stand out. In the 11 games he played last season (he was suspended four games to open the year and missed one game due to injury), he scored at least 11 PPR points in nine of them. He also ranked in the top 20 in points among wideouts in almost half of his games in 2019. He'll be taken as a No. 4 wideout in most 2020 drafts, but he might have as much upside on any given week as you can ask for in this ADP range if things go right. As CBS summed up: "He's a quality bench receiver to have on your roster in all formats.'
Golden Tate 2019 Outlook
In the wake of the surprise trade sending Odell Beckham, Jr. to the Cleveland Browns, the Giants clearly had need of a wideout. Filling that gap started with the signing of Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million deal that includes $23 million in fully guaranteed money. Tate split last season between the Lions and Eagles before becoming a free agent. He wound up with 74 catches for 795 yards and four touchdowns, although, as Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, his production in his seven games with Detroit was well ahead of what he did once he got to Philly. (He did catch the go-ahead touchdown late in the Eagles' playoff win over the Bears.) Tate, who turned 31 this summer, caught at least 90 passes in each of the four full seasons he spent in Detroit, and the Giants certainly wouldn't mind that same kind of productivity. Whether they get it or not is another question, and the answer will likely go a long way toward determining how the team's fans ultimately feel about the franchise’s plan post-Beckham. The biggest fantasy concern for Tate? As ESPN.com's Matthew Berry pointed out, last season the Giants were 29th in targets and receptions to the slot and 30th in yards. That's not great news for a wideout whose career output has been mostly based on volume.
