Rob Gronkowski 2021 Outlook
Gronkowski is returning to the Bucs on a one-year deal worth $10 million. ... Gronkowski, who turned 32 in May, retired and didn't even play the 2019 season, perhaps to his benefit. In 2020, he started all 16 regular-season games for the first time since 2011. Gronkowski accounted for seven touchdowns in his first season with the Bucs, adding eight receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason. In other words, he came on strong after a slow start -- not entirely surprising given the year away from the game. As SI.com noted, Gronkowski averaged four targets and five fantasy points over his first five games of the season. During that time, he scored more than eight points only once. In his next 10 games, Gronkowski averaged 5.3 targets and 11.8 fantasy points. During that time, he scored more than 13 fantasy points six times. Still, Gronkowski's 149 fantasy points in 2020 represent the second fewest in a single season when he's played in at least 11 games. His 623 yards were also the second fewest in a season where he played at least 11 games. With O.J. Howard expected back from the torn Achilles that sidelined him early last year, Gronk's role is unlikely to expand going forward.
Rob Gronkowski 2020 Outlook
A surefire Hall of Fame resume already lies in the rear view for Gronkowski. Nonetheless, Gronkowski has come out of retirement to play for a team other than the New England Patriots for the first time. When Gronkowski “retired” at the end of 2018, he had 79 touchdown catches -- the most all-time by a tight end under 30 years old and third overall for any player younger than 30 (he trailed only Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Jerry Rice). ... Injuries were an issue for Gronk, however, as he missed 29 games in his career and 13 games in his last three seasons alone, and remember that 2020 will mark his first NFL action on the far side of age 30. After posting double-digit touchdown receptions in five of his first six seasons, he had a total of 14 touchdowns between the 2016-18 campaigns. The last we saw Gronkowski, in 2018, he dealt with back and Achilles injuries and struggled when he was on the field. He finished with 47 catches for 682 receiving yards and only three touchdowns in 13 games. His 52.5 yards per game were his fewest since his rookie season in 2010. All that said, given the history and chemistry Brady and Gronk share, viewing this as anything less than an intriguing move from a fantasy perspective would be a mistake.
