DeSean Jackson 2020 Outlook
During an injury-plagued 2019, Jackson tried to rehabilitate and play through a groin injury he suffered in Week 2 rather than immediately having corrective surgery, but he only lasted three snaps in his attempted Week 9 return. At that point Jackson was forced to go under the knife and he lost the rest of his season anyway. His presence was sorely missed by the Eagles, who lacked a comparable deep threat to replace him. Jackson is getting older, but looking at the team’s depth chart, Philadelphia clearly still believes he can play a significant role, with just first-rounder Jalen Reagor and trade acquisition Marquise Goodwin standing out as significant off-season additions at the receiver position. Of course, Jackson has a lot to prove to anyone who thinks he can be a factor in the season ahead. Can he still run past defensive backs? Can he even stay healthy? In addition to the 13 games he missed last season, Jackson hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2013. It is worth noting HC Doug Pederson told reporters in early June that the plan is for Reagor to begin his NFL career playing behind Jackson. Regardless, last year's injury and a crowded field of talent at Philly’s other skill positions will continue to cap Jackson's price and his potential return on investment.
DeSean Jackson 2019 Outlook
The Buccaneers made no secret about shopping Jackson, and the veteran wideout founded his most-desired landing spot after the Eagles acquired him in a trade in March. ... Jackson spent the first six seasons of his career in Philadelphia, averaging 59 catches for 1,020 yards and five touchdowns per year. Despite his production, he was abruptly released by the team after the 2013 season, which was statistically his best, as he posted career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Jackson is still a big-time playmaker, averaging 18.9 yards per catch last season. He will provide the deep threat the Eagles sorely lacked in 2018 after Mike Wallace broke his leg in Week 2 (against Tampa Bay). The first order of business will be building chemistry with Carson Wentz while working alongside the likes of Alshon Jeffery and tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, a group that will create some very difficult assignments for defenders this coming season. As ESPN's Mike Clay reminded readers, Jackson hasn't been all that durable, (he's only appeared in all 16 regular-season games twice in 11 seasons), but he is a difference-maker when on the field, especially in non-PPR scoring leagues. Even if he misses a game or two, Jackson's price tag heading into training camp isn't prohibitive.
