Waiver Wire Targets 2018 Week 6

The waiver wire is key to surviving this long season filled with injuries and other factors that could change a player’s role on their offense. Each week I will provide you with a list of players you should be looking to add off of waivers. Let’s take a look at some of those players below.

Teams on bye this week: Lions, Saints

Quarterback

Baker Mayfield – Browns: Mayfield is owned in just 38 percent of ESPN leagues so chances are he is still available in your league. So far he has played like first round pick and his schedule gets really juicy in the next several weeks. The Browns have matchups against, the Chargers, Steelers, Buccaneers, Chiefs, and Falcons before their bye week, all defenses that have struggled immensely against the pass. If he is still available in your league, add him now because we could be seeing plenty of strong performances out of him in the next several weeks.

Others to consider: Jameis Winston - Buccaneers

Running Back

Alfred Morris – 49ers: Matt Breida is dealing with a mid-ankle sprain that could potentially sideline him, although he has not been ruled out yet. If that ends up being the case, Morris could see a heavy workload. He touched the ball 21 times this past Sunday and totaled 91 yards, that includes three receptions. Morris could serve as a bye week filler and/or an injury replacement should he become the starter for the 49ers offense.

Wendell Smallwood – Eagles: Jay Ajayi was placed on the injured reserve on Monday with a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. This past week, Smallwood played in 49 percent of the snaps and accounted for 13 percent of the target share for the Eagles. He should continue to have a role moving forward. This backfield is also dealing with several other injuries, so there is a chance they would need to call upon him for a bigger workload. He has shown the ability to be effective and could help fantasy owners in need. At this time, he is owned in just 7.7 percent of ESPN leagues.

Others to consider: Mark Walton – Bengals, Mike Davis – Seahawks, Ronald Jones – Buccaneers, Corey Clement - Eagles

Wide Receiver

Christian Kirk –Cardinals: Kirk caught 3-of-4 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Although the volume was not extremely high, it was nice to see him and rookie quarterback Josh Rosen on the same page. These two played in college, so I only expect their chemistry to keep growing in the NFL. There will be growing pains, but Kirk offers plenty of upside and could emerge as the top receiver on this offense by the end of the season.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling – Packers: Valdes-Scantling took advantage of his opportunity this past Sunday. Due to injuries to Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison, Valdes-Scantling got the start and caught 7-of-10 targets for 68 yards and a touchdown. While Cobb and Allison could return soon, Valdes-Scantling has definitely made a case for more playing time, making him an appealing waiver wire add this week. It is worth noting Cobb is known to be injury prone.

Others to consider: Keke Coutee –Texans, Taylor Gabriel – Bears, Ryan Grant - Colts

Tight End

Cameron Brate - Buccaneers: O.J. Howard is expected to miss multiple games as he deals with an MCL sprain, so Brate should get the nod as the starter for the Bucs. Brate has scored a touchdown in each of his last two games and will now have no competition for playing time, so should see more reps. He has a couple of nice matchups ahead, making him a strong tight end add in this week’s waiver wire.

Others to consider: Geoff Swaim - Cowboys
