In this Start Em / Sit Em column each week, I'm looking to find some fringe players that you might consider starting each week and comment based on their matchups. Early on, I'll base my selection of candidates on where they were with respect to ADP. I'm not going to try to pad my stats by suggesting your start Patrick Mahomes each week, but instead trying to dig deep and find some nuggets for players to avoid or to go after. These are coin flip guys and if I can finish the year at better than 60% I'll consider it a success. My metrics to get the start decision are: QB 20 pts or more, RB, WR or TE need to score 12 pts or more for a successful endorsement. Defense/Special Teams should put in 8 points or more to get those picks right. I'll look at ~3-6 players on each Thursday night's game and ~ 6 players for the rest of the week to get you going.

Player Pos Team Opp Start / Sit Comment
Taysom Hill QB NO ATL START Reports are Taysom Hill, not Jameis Winston, will get the start this week against one of the best defenses for QBs to play against. Top that off with Hill's special running capability and you have a potential QB1 available on the waiver wire to run into lineups.
Ben Roethlisberger QB PIT JAC START Big Ben's delivered on his ADP this year. Drafted as a strong QB2, but mostly consistently providing 20-22 pts per game. One week, PIT ran for all of its TDs. That's proven to be an anomoly. Ben's floor should serve as a buffer for a great matchup. Last week, we put in a season high 32.65 points. He likely doesn't match that this week, but he has a strong chance to break out of the 24 point ceiling that's capped him sic out of nine weeks.
Nyheim Hines RB IND GB START The Indy backfield has been a roller coaster. Week 1 showed Hines and Marlon Mack to be the dominant duo until Mack went down. Taylor came in and provided a startable week. In fact, five out of six weeks prior to their BYE, Taylor scored at least 13 points he seemed to be reliable, albeit on lower than expected volume. Since the BYE, Taylor hasn't broken 12 points and it appears to be a complete mystery on who will get the touches. But, HInes has emerged in 2 of those 3 weeks to break 20 points. His matchup vs GB probably lends itself to his skill set if GB can put up points on Indy's defense. He's solid play in the flex this week with a chance to score like an RB1.
Darrell Henderson RB LAR TB SIT Henderson was looking like he secured the lead role in this committee of 3 RB situation until he got dinged up before the BYE. Now, it looks like a complete committee and, unfortunately, Hendersons' targets are limited and he plays one of the better run stuffing teams. I'd look elsewhere this week.
Melvin Gordon RB DEN MIA START Miami's defense has turned into a strong play this year. And, Gordon has been underwhelmning largely due to the split with Lindsay. However, Gordon is the pass catcher between the two and with Lock likely out or playing hurt, look for the short passing game to come more into focus. Expect Gordong to get a couple more targets that nomral which should shore up his floor and provide a reasonable chance for a startable number.
Diontae Johnson WR PIT JAC START Johnson ranks third in fantasy points for PIT WRs this year. However, what's hurt him most is early exit injuries. If PIT doesn't just end up running the ball all game vs JAC, Johnson should be a clear start in fantasy lineups.
