DFS Hunter Report Week 6 2018

By Dave Hunter
Dave Hunter

Let’s get right to Week 6 – no fluff this week. I only played one DraftKings Classic lineup in Week 5 and did miserably with 118.12 points, thanks to a Baltimore Ravens offensive failure. So, I’m feeling sorry for myself.

As I mention every week, I’ll be basing my weekly write-ups off DraftKings salaries, keeping in mind all suggestions are not equal and some players I like more for tournament or cash lineup builds over others.

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Matt Ryan, ATL vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($6,800) – Ryan had an off Week 5, but I’m leaving him right here from last week’s recommendation. We should expect a big bounce-back game facing the Buccaneers defense. With Ryan’s 26.5 FPPG average, consider Week 5 an outlier game for him. Ryan’s receivers will be able to separate nicely from the secondary, so expect 300 yards and 2 TDs at the minimum, although I really believe he’ll toss up more than that. Boom!

Other Choices: Kirk Cousins, MIN vs. Arizona Cardinals ($6,700); Ben Roethlisberger, PIT @ Cincinnati Bengals ($6,500); Andy Dalton, CIN vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($6,300)

Value

Russell Wilson, SEA @ Oakland Raiders ($5,700) – We’ve been waiting for Wilson to have an explosion game, and this is going to be it. I really, really like Wilson facing the Raiders even on the road. Wilson’s mobility will rattle the Raiders, and while Mike Davis and the running game has recently surged for the Seahawks, this game will be won through Wilson’s scrambling ability and the matchup his receivers have against the Raiders defensive backs. Wilson is a fantastic cash game play, but don’t feel like you can’t use him in tournament lineups.

Other Choices: Cam Newton, CAR @ Washington Redskins ($6,100); Jared Goff, LAR @ Denver Broncos ($6,000)

Over-Value

Dak Prescott, DAL vs. Jacksonville Jaguars ($4,700) – Sometimes there is no amount of salary reduction that will make a player worth rostering. Prescott is just playing unproductive football for a DFS lineup. If you’re brave enough to use him in a tournament lineup, a big pat on the back to you. I’m staying away, even with the sub-$5K price and the $600 salary dump from last week. Plus, let’s not forget the poor matchup facing the Jaguars secondary. Yikes.

Other Choices: None

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

Cristian McCaffery, CAR @ Washington Redskins ($8,300) – I won’t even list Todd Gurley II here because he’s a lock if you think you can spend up to $10K for his services. So, let’s drop down a bit, spend $1.7K less, and roster McCaffery. Don’t you love his overall rushing and receiving abilities? McCaffery has been targeted on average 8 times a game in the passing game over the first four games he’s played (the Panthers had a bye in Week 4). That statistic alone is enough for me to sprinkle some McCaffery into my lineups. I love this guy and think he can earn his price tag easily in Week 5 – a definite value, even though I’m listing him as a Top-Level guy.

Other Choices: Melvin Gordon II, LAC @ Denver Broncos ($8,200); James Conner, PIT @ Cincinnati Bengals ($7,700)

Value

Ezekiel Elliott, DAL vs. Jacksonville Jaguars ($7,000) – The Jaguars rush defense has been stingy this year, although I expect Elliott to do what Saquon Barkley did in Week 1 facing the Jags – he’ll find the end zone and net over 100 yards rushing. Elliott is a legitimate superstar talent that’s at a very reasonable price, so the potential for well over 100 yards and 1 TD is there. Let’s not forget that Elliott has turned into a very good receiver out of the backfield.

Other Choices: T.J. Yeldon, JAC @ Dallas Cowboys ($6,400); David Johnson, ARI @ Minnesota Vikings ($5,900); Latavius Murray, MIN vs. Arizona Cardinals ($4,700); Tarik Cohen, CHI @ Miami Dolphins ($4,600); Mike Davis, SEA @ Oakland Raiders ($4,100)

Over-Value

Joe Mixon, CIN vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($7,500) – I’m hesitant to use Mixon at $7.5K. I know he produced well in Week 5, but this price doesn’t seem right to me. Sometimes you just don’t get a good feeling about a player, and that’s it for Mixon. I mean, I hope he explodes as I own him in seasonal leagues, but I think the risk is too high for the dollars spent.

Other Choices: None

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

Julio Jones, ATL vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($7,900) – I’m getting super geeky about this game, mainly since I’m thinking about running a Falcons stack, rostering Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. There’s plenty to go around this week for the Falcons passing game. Heck, I may even think about Austin Hooper or Mohamed Sanu as well, or some sort of mix with the Falcons receiving corps. One negative: others may be all over this idea too, cancelling out any advantage with pumped up ownership. Still, at least one lineup I’m going all in on the Falcons. The Bucs can’t stop the pass. At all. I’m pegging Week 6 as “Julio Jones Week”!

Other Choices: Mike Evans, TB @ Atlanta Falcons ($8,100); A.J. Green, CIN vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($8,000); Keenan Allen, LAC @ Cleveland Browns ($7,500); Juju Smith-Schuster, PIT @ Cincinnati Bengals ($7,300);

Value

Doug Baldwin, SEA @ Oakland Raiders ($5,300) – Come on now, who else sees the major value here in Baldwin? Seriously, he’s at $5.3K? Man, oh man, this is a huge, huge value for me. Baldwin was only targeted once the entire game against the Rams in Week 5. You should figure that the Seahawks are going to make sure that Baldwin is much more involved in the passing game. Maybe Baldwin was taking it easy, playing decoy, due to his recent injury, but no more. Use Baldwin in cash and tournament play.

Other Choices: Tyler Boyd, CIN vs. Pittsburgh Steelers ($6,000); Mohamed Sanu, ATL vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($4,800); Chris Godwin, TB @ Atlanta Falcons ($4,400); Antonio Callaway, CLE vs. Los Angeles Chargers ($4,000); D.J. Moore, CAR @ Washington Redskins ($4,000)

Over-Value

Jarvis Landry, CLE vs. Los Angeles Chargers ($6,600) – Landry doesn’t score TDs – that’s always been the rub. He gets targeted a bunch in the passing game, but the TD chances are nil. I’m not paying this sort of salary for a guy that isn’t scoring TDs. I’d much rather take my chances on Antonio Callaway at his $4K salary if I must expose myself to the Browns side at receiver.

Other Choices: Deandre Hopkins, HOU vs. Buffalo Bills ($7,700); Will Fuller V, HOU vs. Buffalo Bills ($6,800); T.Y. Hilton, IND @ New York Jets ($6,400)

TIGHT END

Top Level

Jordan Reed, WAS vs. Carolina Panthers ($5,200)

Trey Burton, CHI @ Miami Dolphins ($4,500)

Value

Austin Hooper, ATL vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($3,500)

Over-Value

Eric Ebron, IND @ New York Jets ($5,400)
