DFS Hunter Report Week 20 2018

Dave Hunter

As I mention every week, I’ll be basing my weekly write-ups off DraftKings salaries, keeping in mind all suggestions are not equal and some players I like more for tournament or cash lineup builds over others.

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Patrick Mahomes, KC vs. Indianapolis Colts ($6,600) – Mahomes was a disappointment last week, with Philip Rivers as the king of fantasy points at the QB position against the Patriots. I know, right? I like Mahomes to bounce back in the Conference Finals and really stick it to the Patriots, finding his receiving weapons a bunch. The Patriots will stop the run for the most part, so Mahomes is going to need to air it out. We’ll see a back-and-forth game for the most part, both teams finding the end zone often, with Mahomes tossing at least two TDs. Mahomes will outplay everyone else this week at the position.

Value

Jared Goff, LAR @ New Orleans Saints ($5,400)Tom Brady deserves some consideration this week, but I like Goff more considering his $5.4 price tag and the matchup he’s got facing the Saints defense. The Cowboys stifled Goff last week and there’s always risk that the Rams stick to Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson, only using the passing game when they must. I’m not buying that scenario though, so look for Goff to double, even triple his 8.6-point output last week. I know I got burned last week thinking the Rams would use Anderson as a decoy; however, I won’t be surprised at all to see the decoy scenario this week. The value is there Goff, enough for me to take a chance on some lineups.

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

Todd Gurley, LAR @ New Orleans Saints ($7,500) – We see Gurley’s price drop $500 this week, although I believe most of that has to do with C.J. Anderson’s emergence. The matchup plays into it a bit too, although Gurley is matchup proof – I’m never avoiding him due to matchups. Do you buy Anderson continuing to rack up fantasy points? It’s not an easy call, but I think most are going to get on the Anderson-bandwagon. I’m fading Anderson with the hopes that he’ll suffer statistically and every other DFS owner rosters him. Yeah, a contrarian speculation for me, you see. Feel free to roster Gurley in all formats.

Other Choices: Alvin Kamara, NO vs. Los Angeles Rams ($6,500)

Value

James White, NE @ Kansas City ($5,400) – Don’t you just love how White cranks things up to the next level during the playoffs? Me like-y. Brady is going to need to use White some to take the pressure off his receivers. Look for dump-off passes and even a screen or two that gives White a chance to churn-and-burn those legs of his. The weather may end up being arctic-like, and that plays a bit into White and the Patriots hands. I’ll have a spot for White in all my lineups this week, so it’s a make-or-break week for me and White.

Other Choices: Sony Michel, NE @ Kansas City Chiefs ($5,600); Mark Ingram, NO vs. Los Angeles Rams ($4,600)

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

Michael Thomas, NO vs. Los Angeles Rams ($8,200) – Man, Thomas is one crazy-talented WR, isn’t he? Sheesh. All the targets and receptions are enough to make a DFS owner froth at the mouth with excitement. I’m not thrilled with the $8.2K price tag but it’s not enough for me to shy away.

Other Choices: Tyreek Hill, KC vs. New England Patriots ($7,700)

Value

All Rams Receivers @ New Orleans Saints ($4,200 - $5,700) – By “all” receivers, I mean Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks and Josh Reynolds. Each offers value in varying degrees, although my favorite of the bunch is Woods based on the targets I expect him to see facing the Saints. Cooks gets to face his old team, so there’s always that to consider. And Reynolds is purely a dart throw. Maybe he has a big game, eh? The price suggests Reynolds is worth a shot in a tournament lineup.

Other Choices: Sammy Watkins, KC vs. New England Patriots ($4,000); Tre’Quan Smith, NO vs. Los Angeles Rams ($3,600)

TIGHT END

Top Level

Travis Kelce, KC vs. New England Patriots ($7,100)

Value

Rob Gronkowski, NE @ Kansas City Chiefs ($4,100)
