DFS Hunter Report Week 10 2018

By Dave Hunter
Dave Hunter

As I mention every week, I’ll be basing my weekly write-ups off DraftKings salaries, keeping in mind all suggestions are not equal and some players I like more for tournament or cash lineup builds over others.

Let’s get right to the action.

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Drew Brees, NO @ Cincinnati Bengals ($6,300) – Brees is a different QB on the road compared to what he does at home, with a 19.2 FPPG average per game playing away from New Orleans, which is 10 points less than his FPPG average at home; however, I’m banking on the matchup facing the Bengals defense to help make up some of the production difference, but, even so, Brees’ floor on the road is pretty solid in cash game play. I dig Brees for tournament lineups this week as well, as he’ll lead a lineup or two of mine in Week 10.

Other Choices: Patrick Mahomes, KC vs. Arizona Cardinals ($7,200); Jared Goff, LAR vs. Seattle Seahawks ($6,100); Philip Rivers, LAR @ Oakland Raiders ($6,000)

Value

Baker Mayfield, CLE vs. Atlanta Falcons ($5,400) – Mayfield is a risky option for owners, although not because of the price. Still, the temptation is great for me to toss him into a tournament lineup. We haven’t seen a boom game from Mayfield yet, although he has given owners okay production for cash game play. The price is certainly affordable, and the potential is big considering the Falcons defensive backfield. I expect to see Mayfield and the Browns offense turn to Duke Johnson again, considering the success with him in Week 9, which means some dump-off passes for the young QB this week.

Other Choices: Andy Dalton, CIN vs. New Orleans Saints ($5,800); Mitchell Trubisky, CHI vs. Detroit Lions ($5,600); Alex Smith, WAS @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($5,300); Blake Bortles, JAC @ Indianapolis Colts ($4,900)

Over-Value

Aaron Rodgers, GB vs. Miami Dolphins ($6,400) – Maybe I’m a little crazy offering up Rodgers as an over-value option, but I don’t like the $6.4K price tag considering the other QBs out there for you. Rodgers will have an okay game, he just won’t rock your DFS world. The QB position is providing many options week-to-week, so it’s not necessary to reach on Rodgers.

Other Choices: Andrew Luck, IND vs. Jacksonville Jaguars ($5,500)

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

Todd Gurley, LAR vs. Seattle Seahawks ($9,400) or Melvin Gordon, LAC @ Oakland Raiders ($9,000) or Alvin Kamara, NO @ Cincinnati Bengals ($8,700) or Kareem Hunt, KC vs. Arizona Cardinals ($8,500) – Feel free to use any of these RBs as your headline player; however, if I’m picking just one I prefer Gordon. The price point is hefty, so you’ll have to roster some good values (hint, hint, look below) to go with Gordon at RB, but the Raiders matchup and their give-up attitude of late is so enticing. Gordon will have to go nutty in the first half though, as the Chargers may rest him in the second half with the massive lead they’ll net on the Raiders. Something to think about anyway. My second choice? Kareem Hunt.

Other Choices: Kareem Hunt, KC vs. Arizona Cardinals ($8,500); Joe Mixon, CIN vs. New Orleans Saints ($7,700); James White, NE @ Tennessee Titans ($7,300)

Value

Tevin Coleman, ATL @ Cleveland Browns ($5,400) – No, I’m not expecting another 32-point performance from Coleman this week; however, he is the absolute man now in Atlanta, with a bit of Ito Smith sprinkled in the backfield. Coleman will be running, catching and scoring for owners this week. I absolutely love him in all formats and he’s a wonderful RB to compliment one of the superstar top-level RBs I recommended above. We are happy if he gives us 20 points in cash game play, although we want a bit more in tournament action. His ceiling is decent, and I expect him to get close to 5X value.

Other Choices: Nick Chubb, CLE vs. Atlanta Falcons ($5,500); Tarik Cohen, CHI vs. Detroit Lions ($5,500); Aaron Jones, GB vs. Miami Dolphins ($5,000); Duke Johnson, Jr., CLE vs. Atlanta Falcons ($4,700);

SPECIAL NOTE: Dion Lewis, TEN vs. New England Patriots ($4,600) – Lewis is way undervalued, and a wonderful opportunity to take advantage in tournament play. He’ll be under-owned this week, even after his excellent MNF performance.

Over-Value

David Johnson, ARI @ Kansas City Chiefs ($6,800) – The matchup is fantastic on paper, there’s no denying that, although I’m not confident in Johnson tearing up the Chiefs defense. The entire Cardinals offense has been nil this season and DJ isn’t the Top-3 overall RB that most of us were expecting. He won’t earn this almost $7K price tag, so I’m staying away. Don’t worry, you won’t get a word-thrashing from me if you roster DJ, because, yeah, that matchup sure is tempting.

Other Choices: Leonard Fournette, JAC @ Indianapolis Colts ($6,300) – I’m a huge Fournette guy, but not his first game back after a long layoff at this price. Move along. Move along.

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

Michael Thomas, NO @ Cincinnati Bengals ($8,100) – Thomas has been pretty quiet of late before last week’s explosion of points. There’s room for another exciting game for Thomas, don’t you think? Thomas is a cash play for me only, mainly since I’m betting most will see the matchup and will be banking on him off last week’s 42.1 performance. I expect his ownership percentage to be higher than usual and there are too many options out there for tournament lineups to settle on Thomas. I’ll be happy if I get 25 points out of him in cash play.

Other Choices: Julio Jones, ATL @ Cleveland Browns ($8,300); Tyler Boyd, CIN vs. New Orleans Saints ($7,500); Keenan Allen, LAC @ Oakland Raiders ($7,100); Julian Edelman, NE @ Tennessee Titans ($6,800)

Value

DeSean Jackson, TB vs. Washington Redskins ($4,900) – Jackson is a tournament play only with his inconsistency issues from week-to-week. The below $5K price is attractive to me this week with the potential of building my lineup using a Studs-and-Duds strategy. Jackson is a good “Dud” that may hit for owners this week. With Ryan Fitzpatrick back as the starting QB for the second week in a row for the Bucs, I do like Jackson’s outlook. Also, I never discount a player’s matchup against a former team he played for.

Other Choices:Jarvis Landry, CLE vs. Atlanta Falcons ($6,200); Josh Gordon, NE @ Tennessee Titans ($6,000); Larry Fitzgerald, ARI @ Kansas City Chiefs ($5,400); Dede Westbrook, JAC @ Indianapolis Colts ($4,700)

Over-Value

Davante Adams, GB vs. Miami Dolphins ($7,800) – I just don’t see the need to spend almost $8K on Adams this week, sort of the same thought process with Aaron Rodgers. There are better value-options out there for you. Also consider that youngster Marquez Valdes-Scantling is starting to dig into the Aaron Rodgers’ target throws, and Randall Cobb is back in action for the second week in a row.

Other Choices: Marvin Jones, Jr., DET @ Chicago Bears ($5,500)

TIGHT END

Top Level

Travis Kelce, KC vs. Arizona Cardinals ($7,000)

O.J. Howard, TB vs. Washington Redskins ($5,300)

Value

Austin Hooper, ATL @ Cleveland Browns ($3,800)

Ben Watson, NO @ Cincinnati Bengals ($3,400)

Over-Value

Jordan Reed, WAS @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($4,400)
