Week 8

DraftKings (Main Slate: 11 Games)

Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo @ Seahawks ($5,400)

We’re at the point now where we don’t know what Jimmy Garoppolo we’ll see week to week. Deebo Samuel is now hurt, and the backfield is also in disarray. That said, the 49ers get a Seahawks secondary that hasn’t been able to stop anyone. The jury is out on Jimmy G’s future with the team, but he’s auditioning nonetheless. This game has one of the highest totals on the slate (54) and the spread is close (49ers +3.5). At his price point we only need 16-20 DraftKings points to be pay off his cost. Pairing him with rookie Brandon Aiyuk, or George Kittle makes perfect sense with Seahawks.
 

Derek Carr @ Browns ($5,500)

Take your hat off for Derek Carr this season, he’s been extremely efficient. He’s thrown 13 touchdowns and just TWO interceptions. If the Raiders are going to make the playoffs, he’ll need to be. Carr is averaging 21 DraftKings points a game and he’s hit the 300 yard bonus twice. We saw what rookie Joe Burrow did to the Browns secondary week 7 (38.6 DraftKings points) and there is reason to believe Carr can come close to touching that. The good news? He doesn’t need to drop 38 in order to make value. Let’s not forget what he was able to do week five in Kansas City week five. A Carr-Waller stack is cheap with MASSIVE upside week eight. I’ll be using him in cash games and tournaments.

 

Running Backs

Myles Gaskin vs. Rams ($5,200)

Make no mistake about it, the Rams have been pretty good against the run in 2020. Seventh in yards allowed to be exact. That said, they are still allowing over 100 yards per game. It’s Tua time in Miami and Gaskin’s number may be called even more week eight with the rookie and his uncertainty. For me it’s a clear case of 20+ touches, on the cheap, in a home game that should be close. Gaskin is the clear-cut RB1, getting more than twice as many snaps (261), carries (82) and rushing yards (34) as any other Phins running backs. His role in the passing is the selling point for me. Fire him up in GPPs, he’s too cheap.
 

Melvin Gordon vs. Chargers ($5,600)

We have a narrative week eight as Melvin Gordon will take on his former Chargers team. Despite losing two fumbles against the Chiefs, the Broncos may be forced to use Gordon in a high volume role with Phillip Lindsay concussed. Gordon’s short tenure has been sporadic but he is their RB and is one of the highest usage RB’s over the course of the last few years. Narrative street aside, the Chargers have allowed 18 or more fantasy points to running backs in four straight games. Price, potential high usage, weak Chargers run defense, sign me up.

Wide Receivers

A.J. Green vs. Titans ($4,500)
A.J. Green is $4,500 on DraftKings. Allow that to register. The best part? His relationship with Joe Burrow is growing. Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, are $1,000 more but also can be used. Green has 24 targets over the last two weeks and that’s impressive considering Joe Burrow is spreading the ball around to all of his wide receivers. He’ll get a Titans secondary that has been atrocious as we saw week 7 with Diontae Johnson and JuJu Smith-Schuster. I like Green in my Joe Burrow stacks, as well as using him as a last piece in my lineups. Im comfortable enough to use him in cash games and tournaments week eight.

Nelson Agholor @ Browns ($4,700)

Nelson Agholor has caught a touchdown pass in his last 3-of-4 games, as his rapport with Derek Carr becomes more and more apparent. He’s commanded 180 yards on 11 targets and has player close to 80% of the Raiders offensive snaps. Despite heavy winds for the Browns-Raiders tilt, the book makers have this game slated as a shoot out. Like A.J. Green, i’m confident in using Agholor in Derek Carr stacks, and as a last piece in my week eight lineups. After years of struggling on Philadelphia, his career for the moment has been revitalized and we have to ride that wave on the cheap.

Tight Ends

Harrison Bryant vs. Raiders ($3,200)

Austin Hooper is doubtful week eight and we can go right back to the Harrison Bryant well. Bryant caught 4-of-5 targets week seven for 56 yards, and two touchdowns. Baker Mayfield was starting to lean on Austin Hooper prior to injury, and Bryant for the time being will get that usage. There is some cheap fantasy goodness in this Browns-Raiders game and we have to identify where the production is going to come from. With Odell Beckham out for the season, the receiving game usage has to go somewhere outside of Jarvis Landry. The Raiders were able to contain Travis Kelce so far this season but his price is too good. The weather in this game will determine my exposure, but he’s on my radar based on price, opportunity, and red zone usage.

Jonnu Smith @Bengals ($4,100)

We are getting a deal on Jonnu Smith week 8. I took the bait last week and got burned by him. Any time he’s under 5 k, he’s presented random splashes of upside. Where Ryan Tannehill is grading out as a top QB on the slate, it’ll make sense to use smith as a swerve off of the Chalky A.J. Brown. We can easily pair Tannehill with Brown, and Smith as well. He’s been quiet over the last couple weeks, making week 8 a perfect spot to use him in tournaments. Adam Humphries and Corey Davis are healthy, which clouds up the usage in the Titans passing game. Tread lightly with Smith, but remember his upside and this game is going to have some points scored on both sides.

Defense/Special Teams

Dolphins vs. Rams ($2,400)

The Dolphins defense has together to be the best third down defense in the NFL. Their secondary has improved and they can get at the Quarterback. Sign me up against Jared Goff week 8.
