DFS Cash Game Breakdown 2019 Week 3

By Kyle Dvorchak

Paying up for a quarterback and a tight end continues to be a viable strategy as Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce all crushed their projections in Week 2. Is paying up for the onesie positions the move in Week 3? Let's find out.

Quarterback

Dak Prescott, Dallas

The new-look Dallas Cowboys are an offense quarterbacks only dream of. Prescott is completing 82.3% of his passes and averaged 10.9 yards per attempt. He's thrown seven scores to a single interception. Kellen Moore has unlocked the full potential of Prescott this season.
The cherry on top is Dak's matchup. He faces the Dolphins, at home, as a 21-point favorite.
Miami has given up over 600 yards and eight passing touchdowns in just two weeks. Plus, the worst defense in the NFL just got worse by trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh

The play with Mason Rudolph is simply one based on value. Rudolph is one of the cheapest starting quarterbacks no matter what site you play on. Out of the dirt-cheap starting passers, he is easily the best play.
Rudolph was a prolific passer coming out of college. He averaged 9.9 adjusted yards per attempt at Oklahoma State. Rudolph finished his career with 92 touchdowns through the air, 17 more on the ground, and over 13,000 passing yards. Now he's on a team that ranks top-five in the NFL in percentage of plays that are passes.
Rudolph will reach his value on volume alone and has the upside of a truly talented player.

Running Back

Christian McCaffrey, Carolina

Christian McCaffrey is the best play on the main slate for the second time of his two main slate appearances. He's been priced as the third back on both of those slates now.

The Cardinals and the Panthers are tied at fourth in the NFL for play per game. They have both run an average of 68 plays per game through two weeks. This sets up perfectly for McCaffrey, who has played on 100% of the snaps. McCaffrey also leads all players with 47 touches. He should lead the slate in touches and fantasy points versus Arizona.

Dalvin Cook, Minnesota

Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings are currently 9.5-point favorites hosting the Oakland Raiders in Minnesota. This obviously sets up well for them to have a lead early and be able to start grinding out the clock by the second half or early fourth-quarter.

On top of this, the Vikings are the most run-heavy team in the NFL right now. They have only passed the ball on 40.4% of their snaps. In Week 1, when they took a 28-0 lead over the Falcons, Minnesota ran the ball 77.5% of the time.

Cook has carried the ball at least 20 times in back-to-back games now and has added five receptions through two games. He deserves to be mentioned with the likes of Zeke and McCaffrey.

Wide Receiver

Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona

Fitzgerald just keeps on ticking and the new-look Cardinals are giving him even more life.

He leads the Cardinals receivers in air yards, targets, catches, and fantasy points. The Cardinals are passing on three-quarters of their snaps and have run the fourth-most plays (136) in the NFL. Their opponent, the Carolina Panthers, is tied with them for plays run.

Kyler Murray has taken a liking to Fitzgerald coming out of the slot and its producing fantasy points on a weekly basis. He's a plug-and-play until his price is pushed way up on all sites.

Nelson Agholor, Philadelphia

Not player as inexpensive as Nelson Agholor will see even close to as many targets as the Philly slot receiver. Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and Dallas Goedert all left their Sunday Night game and none of the players returned to the match.

In their absence, Agholor racked up eight catches for 107 yards and a score.

Jackson has already been ruled out of Week 3 while Jeffery seems like a bad bet to play as well.

The Eagles are looking for anyone with a pulse to throw to and Agholor is at least that. He is the perfect way to get savings without taking a zero or anything close.

Tight End

Greg Olsen, Carolina

Rostering players that correlate with each other is important to do even in cash games. That makes running Fitzgerald back with the opposing tight end a preferably choice holding all else constant.

Olsen has been peppered with targets, seeing 18 in two weeks and converting 10 of them into 146 years. Now he gets the best matchup a tight end can hope for. Arizona has been ravaged by tight ends so far. They have given up a 17-273-3 stat line to the position after two weeks. All of those marks lead the league.

Run Olsen back with Fitzgerald to further capitalize on the upside of this game.

Defense

New England

There's no need to do anything crazy at defense this week. There are several cheap wideouts tha making paying up at defense plausible while still getting multiple stud backs.

New England is a 23-point favorite, at home, and faces a rookie passer who started the season as the third-stringer. If the Pats can hold Pittsburgh to three points they're going to do unholy things to Luke Faulk and the Jets.
