The Facts: Mixon will handle "the largest workload" of his career in 2021, according to Paul Dehner of The Athletic. "Tag an extra 15-20 receptions to [Mixon's] previous totals by virtue of Giovani Bernard being gone," Dehner writes. "You will see Semaje Perine give him a breather for maybe a series or two a game. I'd expect Chris Evans to earn a portion of the pass situation plays as the year progresses. But for the most part, this will be all about [Mixon]."
Diehards Line:
As theRedzone.org notes, those numbers ring true given the comments of OC Brian Callahan, who has stated he does not want Mixon to leave the field on third downs. HC Zac Taylor has tempered those expectations by declaring that Mixon will "share" the third-down role and adding the team does not need the 24-year-old on the field for "75 snaps" a game-a number reached by one one running back (Dalvin Cook) in one game in 2020. Of course, all of this is predicated on Mixon staying healthy for the entire 2021 season after playingin only six games in 2020 due to a severe mid-foot sprain. Mixon has suited up for all 16 regular season games only once in his four years in the NFL. When healthy, however, he is one of the most talented backs in the league and should be drafted as a low-end RB1 workhorse in fantasy drafts this summer.
