The Facts: Who the San Francisco 49ers' plan to select at No. 3 overall remains a mystery hours before the 2021 NFL Draft kicks off. What's not in question is what the pick will mean for Garoppolo's long-term future. The Niners traded three first-round picks to leap into the third position to select their QB of the future, meaning Garappolo isn't long for the Bay Area. Still, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday morning that the Niners do not have plays to trade Jimmy G unless the value overwhelms them, per sources informed of the situation.
Diehards Line:And while ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the same, plans are often made to be changed. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that several teams will inquire about a trade for the QB who helped get the Niners to a Super Bowl two seasons ago, but nothing is in motion yet. "My understanding is, you can anticipate multiple teams to be checking in with the 49ers today about a potential trade for Garoppolo," Pelissero said. "One logical team that's been connected to this for a while now, of course, Garoppolo's original team, the New England Patriots." There are reports floating around the Twitterverse indicating the Patriots are indeed in the mix. But stay tuned. We shall see.
