The Facts: Speaking at a Wednesday press conference, new HC Nick Sirianni wouldn't name Hurts the Eagles starting QB. "To name a starter at this particular time. ... We've been working with these guys for two days."
Diehards Line:
Sirianni says he wants competition at every position -- or at least he currently wants the perception of competition at every position. As things stand now, veteran Joe Flacco would be the man competing with Hurts. So we shouldn't get too excited about this. As Philadelphia Inquirer staffer Jeff McLane responded to a Twitter follower asking if we should really expect a competition to change things: "No. Barring an unlikely trade or draft pick, Jalen Hurts will be the Eagles' starting QB this season." We'll follow up as needed, but assume this is coachspeak until we have actual evidence to the contrary.
