The Facts: For the first time since the Packers shocked the world and selected QB Jordan Love in the first round of the draft, the current starting QB is speaking out on it. Rodgers spoke with media members via conference call Friday afternoon and he spoke on not being thrilled with the selection, but he understood why the franchise had to make the move. “He didn’t ask to be drafted by the Packers," Rodgers said. "He’s not to blame at all. I had a good conversation with him the day after the draft and I’m excited to work with him.”
Diehards Line:
As for whether Rodgers was surprised by the selection? “The general reaction at first was surprise, like many people," the veteran signal caller conceded. "Not going to say I was thrilled by the pick, necessarily. But I understand the organization is not thinking just about the present, but the future and I respect that.” Asked to expand on why he wasn’t thrilled about the Love pick: “I think it’s more the surprise of the pick based on my own feelings of wanting to play into my 40s. It does change the controllables a little bit," he said. Just this past season, Rodgers threw for 4,002 yards, 26 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Above all, he was able to lead Green Bay to the NFC Championship game.
