The Facts: Gordon hasn’t participated in the Chargers’ offseason program, but the star running back took notice of his teammates practicing Tuesday. Gordon quote tweeted a few greeting words and emojis to a video of the Chargers’ running backs doing drills during Day 4 of organized team activities. “The Gang,” Gordon wrote followed by three shaka hands and a black heart.
Diehards Line:
The Pro Bowl running back isn’t required to be at workouts until the three-day mandatory minicamp starts June 11. All offseason workouts before that are voluntary. Gordon’s absence has garnered attention because he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract. The longer Gordon is away from the team, the more people start wondering about a potential contract holdout. But Gordon has been known for late offseason arrivals. He prefers to work out with personal trainers in Florida. GM Tom Telesco has said he wants to extend Gordon’s contract, but he also added that there isn’t a timetable. Gordon is owed a base salary of $5.6 million for the 2019 season. It’s unclear how Gordon’s new deal plays out, but he’s proven that he’s one of the most productive running backs in the NFL. June 11’s mandatory date will say a lot about this looming contract dilemma.
