The Facts: Cowboys V.P. Stephen Jones told reporters on Tuesday why the team wants to get a new contract done this offseason with Prescott: “You look at a quarterback that has had the success he’s had...He’s done everything the right way. I think he deserves to have his contract looked at in a very progressive way.”
Diehards Line:
Again, in three seasons, Prescott has won 32 regular-season games and one in the playoffs. He has started every contest since Dallas drafted him. His 67 passing touchdowns through three seasons are rather pedestrian, though his 18 rushing scores rank tops among quarterbacks in the league through the stretch. Prescott entrenched his starter role as a rookie in large part thanks to the ball security he displayed while mounting a 23:4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Prescott enters his first chance to negotiate having won seven of his last eight regular-season games, completing 71.63 percent of passes and accounting for 16 total touchdowns with just four interceptions during that stretch. Beyond that, it's worth noting Prescott finished fifth at the position in fantasy points scored as a runner with 64.5. He has rushed for six touchdowns in each of his first three NFL seasons. We'll be watching for more on this one.
