The Facts: The Detroit Lions have released Ellington and free safety Glover Quin.
Diehards Line:
The 27-year-old Ellington has bounced around the league since being drafted in the fourth round by the 49ers in 2014. He spent two years in San Francisco and two with the Texans before landing in Detroit late last season, where he totaled 23 catches for 132 scoreless yards during a four-game stint. Recurring injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential but the slot receiver will likely get some training camp invites at the very least. Cutting Quin was a cost-saving move for Detroit as his release will free up $6.25 million in cap space while leaving behind $1.7 million in dead money.
