The Facts: The Falcons' most significant pending free agents are defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and Coleman, although GM Thomas Dimitroff said re-signing Jarrett is a top priority right now. Keeping Coleman seems unlikely after the Falcons already signed Devonta Freeman to a five-year, $41.25 million extension ($22 million guaranteed) through 2022.
Diehards Line:
In an interview with ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure, owner Arthur Blank may have hinted at the team's plans for Coleman by including Freeman in the following statement: "With the quarterback that we have (Matt Ryan), and the young defensive stars that we have, and some of the talent that we have on offense with Julio [Jones] and Freeman returning, I think we'll be in very good, competitive shape next year. It's a long season, but I like where we are." Indeed, during an appearance with the FootballDieahrds on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio this past Saturday night, AJC.com's D. Orlando Ledbetter suggested that Coleman is likely to draw offers similar to what Jerick McKinnon got from the 49ers as a free agent last offseason. Ledbetter also added that Freeman should be at full speed heading into next season and that the time off due to a groin injury this past year might have been helpful in helping Freeman stabilize his brain (after concussions had been an issue in previous seasons). Whatever the case, expect Coleman to be high on the free-agent radar in March.
