The Facts: According to AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban, Johnson spoke after practice, and when he was asked about Steve Wilks saying he wanted him to play "quite a bit more," Johnson smiled. "Probably four plays this time," Johnson said, which would indeed increase his workload 100 percent. But the subject of Johnson's contract was broached, and the running back reiterated he was going to let his agent handle things. He did say he was "encouraged" that the two sides continue to talk about a potential extension.
Diehards Line:
Johnson is going into the final year of his rookie deal. He acknowledged missing last year with his broken wrist has probably hurt his situation. "I think that's what it is -- I didn't play," Johnson said. "I didn't play last year. I was hoping my production from my second year and what I did my first year would help out, but the NFL is what have you done for me lately, so hopefully I can prove it once the season starts." Johnson said he didn't feel any rust Saturday. He obviously played well, finishing with a pair of 14-yard carries on his two carries. We'll all be looking for a little more this week.
