The Facts: Fitzgerald will be back for his 15th NFL season this fall, all of which he has played with the Cardinals. This is the last year of his current contract, meaning Fitzgerald could become a free agent next offseason. But he doesn't see himself playing for another team. “If I’m not playing in Arizona, I won’t be playing anywhere,” he said. “I’ve built a good life for myself down there. Playing in the same place for 15 years is a true blessing.”
Diehards Line:
While the question “when will Fitzgerald retire?” has been brought up a lot lately, the future hall of famer’s productivity remains — more than 100 catches and 1,000 yards in each of his past three seasons. Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown is the only NFL player in that club. Fitzgerald, who will turn 35 this fall, noted he’s not the only “older” athlete to produce at a high level, noting 36-year-old Serena Williams played in another Wimbledon final over the weekend, and 33-year-old LeBron James is still the best men’s basketball player in the world. Fitzgerald said he still feels good, enjoys the competition and loves being around his teammates. Whether he plays beyond this year isn't something we'll know soon. But the chances he will continue to play at a high level this fall seem good.
