The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... Alex Smith and Washington now have reached an agreement on a new four-year contract extension, per sources. Smith, who had one year left on his contact, tied to Washington for next five seasons. Smith gets long-term deal from Washington that Cousins could not.
Diehards Line:
In other words, as ESPN's Adam Schefter put it, "Cousins now will be leaving Washington. ..." In discussing possible scenarios going forward in an interview earlier today prior to this news coming out, the signal caller suggested if he does hit free agency, he wants a team that will not only offer him a lot of money but also offer him an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. “Is money a part of it? Sure. Is it the only thing? No,” Cousins said on PFT Live. Cousins continued: “It is about winning, and that’s what I want more than anything, so I’m going to be willing to make sacrifices or do what has to be done to make sure I’m in the best possible position to win, and that’s what the focus is going to be.” There will be plenty of speculation on Cousins' destination in coming days, but the early reports include the full list of QB-needy and potentially QB-needy teams including the Broncos, Cardinals, Jets, Jaguars, Browns and Bills. There will likely be more teams added to that list in coming days. Stay tuned.
