The Facts: McKinnon said he appreciated his role this season with the Vikings, but as he heads to free agency, he'd ideally like to go somewhere he can be the featured back: "I want bigger and better things for myself," McKinnon said, "We'll see what happens."
Diehards Line:
With Vikings OC Pat Shurmur all but certain to take over as the Giants HC, there has already been some speculation that QB Case Keenum could follow Shurmur to New York despite the presence of Eli Manning. In addition to Keenum, speculation has begun to mount over the possibility of McKinnon also following Shurmur to the running back-needy Giants. As PFT's Mike Florio recently noted, McKinnon isn’t exactly a lead dog or bell cow back, which raises eyebrows when it comes to this sort of speculation. As talented and versatile as McKinnon is, the Giants already have a compliment of situational backs. What they need is a three-down starter, not another role players. McKinnon clearly sees himself as capable, however. In 2017, McKinnon gained 570 yards and scored three touchdowns on 150 carries, adding 51 receptions for 421 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 312 yards on 12 kick returns.
