The Facts: The Giants announced that Dave Gettleman has been selected as the team's new general manager.
Diehards Line:
Gettleman, a 30-year NFL veteran who spent four seasons as the Carolina Panthers’ general manager and 15 as a personnel executive in the Giants organization, will be just the Giants’ fourth general manager since 1979, following George Young, Ernie Accorsi and Jerry Reese, who held the job for 11 seasons before he was dismissed on Dec. 4. Gettleman was one of four men to interview for the position. The others were interim general manager Kevin Abrams, the assistant G.M. for 16 years and a member of the organization for 19; Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross; and former NFL personnel executive and current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick. ... One of Gettleman's first orders of business will be determining Eli Manning's future with the club.
