The Facts: Ryan was asked Monday if he's given any thought as to how much longer he wanted to play in the NFL. "I still feel pretty young," said Ryan, who is 32 and about to enter his 10th season. "I still feel like I got a lot of football in front of me, and hopefully I can play for a long time. ... You hope for one of those 15- or 20-year careers for sure -- that's what the hope is."
Diehards Line:
That would be great news for the Falcons and fantasy owners. Ryan came up short in the Super Bowl after an incredible regular season stuffed with big plays and even bigger statistics. Atlanta's offense ranked statistically among the greatest in NFL history during the 2016 season, earning Ryan the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award over Tom Brady. The key was the re-established front interior of the passing pocket that allowed him more time to spread the football around. He threw touchdown passes to 13 different receivers, which was a NFL record. Of course Ryan continued to thrive throwing to Julio Jones but also was able to get the ball to his other receivers, tight ends and running backs. Ryan clearly felt comfortable in Kyle Shanahan's offense and was not afraid to improvise when things broke down. The question now is whether he can keep his roll going with Steve Sarkisian replacing Shanahan as the Falcons' play caller. Expect some regression but even so, be prepared to pay up if you want to own Ryan this season.
