The Facts: Matthews was rumored to be available via trade this offseason. The Eagles' fourth-year receiver did not sound concerned about the speculation. "That's fake news. Alternative facts," Matthews said Tuesday with a smile. "I don't really care about that stuff, bro. I feel like it's the NFL – everybody has a price. Those talks, they happen. It really doesn't faze me in any way."
Diehards Line:But as PhillyNews.com's Zach Berman notes, Matthews, who has been the Eagles' No. 1 wide receiver the past two years, enters the final season of his contract without a long-term commitment in Philadelphia. The Eagles signed two wide receivers and drafted two, and his future with the team beyond this season is undetermined. Meanwhile, Matthews said the concept of being a No. 1 receiver can be overblown. Multiple receivers run routes on a given play, and it's up to them to get open and catch the ball. If they fulfill their responsibilities, the opportunities will come. HC Doug Pederson said Matthews "has been a big part of this offense and he is still a big part of this offense." Pederson cited Matthews' relationship with quarterback Carson Wentz as an asset and the need to get Matthews healthy again. Matthews is still returning to full health from an ankle injury suffered late last season. We'll be watching to see where he falls in the pecking order, but expect Alshon Jeffery to be Wentz's primary downfield weapon.
