The Facts: If the Lions take a tight end early in next week's NFL draft, could it spell the end of Ebron's time with the team? GM Bob Quinn said at his pre-draft news conference Thursday he hasn't decided whether to exercise the fifth-year option on Ebron's rookie contract, and that what the team does at the tight end position in the draft could push him one way or another on the decision. "It's a possibility," Quinn said. "We're still in the process of evaluating Eric's situation. We have until May 2, so we'll use our time."
Diehards Line:Ebron, the 10th pick of the 2014 draft by former general manager Martin Mayhew, set career-highs with 61 catches for 711 yards last year, and has shown steady improvement in his first three NFL seasons. He's under contract this fall, and the Lions have the right to exercise an option for 2018 worth more than $8 million, guaranteed for injury only. Ebron, who turned 24 earlier this month, has played in 42 of a possible 50 games in his NFL career. Quinn said he has "an idea" what he wants to do with Ebron's contract, "but my mind is not made up. ..." And the draft will be -- if not the -- a determining factor.
