The Facts: In the wake of last week's report from CSNNE.com that Blount has "an offer on the table" to return to the Patriots, NFL Network;s Ian Rapoport said that the Pats haven't budged from their original proposal to the 30-year-old running back.
Diehards Line:Rapoport added the Patriots have high regard for Blount, but as NFL.com notes, those strong feelings don't come with cash attached. The Adrian Peterson visit last week seems to have little effect on the Blount negotiations. Dion Lewis, James White, Rex Burkhead, Brandon Bolden and D.J. Foster currently make up the Patriots' backfield depth chart. Burkhead signed a one-year, $3.15 million deal this offseason. While the Pats have a need for a power back, Rapoport noted that the team isn't in a hurry to increase its offer for a one-dimensional runner generating a shallow market. Indeed, Blount, who led the NFL with 18 touchdowns in 2016, can't find an offer in line with his production. ... Still, as previously noted, Boston Globe staffer Jim McBride wrote on Sunday that Blount would re-sign "sooner rather than later."
