The Facts: Woodhead told reporters that his signing of a three-year deal with the Ravens on Thursday shows his level of confidence after tearing his ACL in Week 2 last season. "I wasn't going to come back if I couldn't do what I can do," Woodhead said Friday.
Diehards Line:
He continued: "I wanted to be able to be the player that I've been the last two or three years. I believe I am. Otherwise, I wouldn't try to come back. ..." In 2015, the year before his season-ending knee injury, Woodhead was a difference-maker in the Chargers offense, setting career highs in yards from scrimmage (1,091) and touchdowns (nine). He also led all NFL running backs with 80 receptions, 755 receiving yards and six touchdown catches. HC John Harbaugh pointed out how Woodhead can run the ball, catch passes, pass-protect and line up outside as a receiver. As for Kenneth Dixon's four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs? GM Ozzie Newsome acknowledged that he's known about Dixon's situation for "a long time" and said the Ravens would have signed Woodhead even if Dixon hadn't been disciplined. "We needed to add another element to our offense, and Danny brings that," Newsome said. Woodhead, 32, is one of four players to produce at least 15 rushing touchdowns and 15 touchdown catches since he entered the NFL in 2009. The others are Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte and Darren Sproles.
