The Facts: After Sunday's loss to the Rams, HC Todd Bowles said that he made the decision to start Bryce Petty at QB on Saturday because Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't completely healthy after spraining his knee in Week 9 against the Dolphins. The Jets have next week off and Bowles said that time will be used to make a call on a starter for their Week 12 game against the Patriots. "We'll evaluate that next week as we go forward," Bowles said.
Diehards Line:
The coach continued: “We have a bye week to evaluate it and I’ll see how Fitz feels. We’ll watch the film on Bryce and make a determination middle of next week. ... I’m trying to play the best player right now and win ball games. It it’s Bryce, it’s Bryce. If it’s Fitz, it’s Fitz.” Bowles said he thought Petty “made some good throws” while going 19-of-32 for 163 yards, a touchdown and an interception that ended any hopes of winning the game in the fourth quarter. Bowles also saw “some growing pains,” which is both understandable and something that will only change with more time running the offense. The Jets fell to 3-7 with the loss.
